A simple 12x24 tile can look completely different depending on the pattern. But beware: complex patterns mean more cuts, which means you need to order more overage.
Straight Lay (Stack Bond)
The Look: Modern, clean, grid-like.
- Waste Factor: Low (5-10%).
- Difficulty: Easy.
Running Bond (Brick)
The Look: Traditional, sturdy, classic subway.
- Waste Factor: Medium (10-15%).
- Tip: For large format tiles (like 12x24), use a 1/3 offset instead of 1/2 to prevent "lippage" where the middle of the tile is higher than the corners.
Herringbone
The Look: Elegant, high-end, visual movement.
- Waste Factor: High (15-20%+).
- Difficulty: Hard. Requires 45-degree angle cuts at every wall.
