Paint Sheen: Satin vs Semi-Gloss

The shinier the paint, the easier it is to clean (but the more flaws it shows).

Choosing a color is hard enough. Then the clerk asks, "What sheen?" and you freeze. Here is the simple breakdown.

Flat / Matte

Zero shine. Creates a rich, velvety look that hides drywall imperfections perfectly.

Eggshell / Satin

Low luster. The "standard" for walls. Easy enough to wipe down, but not shiny.

Painting a wall

Semi-Gloss / Gloss

High shine. Highly durable and scrubbable, but reflects light so every dent shows.
